Sei Fabric
Frequently Asked Questions
What fabric is the Sei Fabric made from, and what is its thread count?
Sei is 100% cotton with a sateen weave and 600 thread count, making it MATTEO's highest thread count fabric. It uses the same 120/2 Ne yarn in both warp and weft, which produces the uniformly silky, smooth hand that sateen weavers typically achieve only at lower thread counts.
Why does MATTEO stop at 600 thread count instead of going higher?
Thread count measures weave density, not softness or breathability. Fabrics above 600 TC tend to be stiff and dense, and they lose the fluid drape and airflow that make a sateen feel genuinely comfortable. Sei reaches the upper limit of what MATTEO considers structurally sound without sacrificing the fabric's ability to move.
How wide is the Sei Fabric, and what is the maximum piece length I can order?
After washing, Sei measures 115 inches wide; one yard is 115" W x 36" L. Because garment-dyeing is done in continuous runs, the longest single piece MATTEO is able to dye is 3 yards (115" W x 108" L). If you need more than 3 yards, specify the preferred length per piece when placing your order.
How do I wash and care for the Sei Fabric?
Machine wash on a lukewarm cycle with gentle detergent, separating light and dark colors. Tumble dry on low heat and remove promptly to reduce wrinkling. Avoid chlorine bleach, alpha hydroxy acids, and benzoyl peroxide on garment-dyed pieces, as the reactive dyes are not resistant to whitening agents.
