FAQ
About MATTEO
What defines MATTEO as a luxury bedding brand?
Designed and made in Los Angeles California, MATTEO is known for high-end bed linens crafted from 100% cotton, pure linen, and sateen weaves. Every duvet cover, fitted sheet, sham, and pillowcase is made in small batches, garment-washed for softness, and finished with a refined hand feel. From our luxury duvet covers to vintage-inspired quilts and linen bedding sets, our pieces are designed for timeless interiors and lasting comfort.
Where does the name MATTEO originate?
'Matteo' is the Italian version of Matthew. MATTEO founder, Matthew Lenoci, lived in Italy when he was younger and the locals called him Matteo. The name was accompanied with inspiration and fond memories. His mother recommended the name MATTEO for our brand and the name stuck.

Can I order fabric swatches before purchasing?
Yes — MATTEO offers fabric swatches for select bedding and table linen collections, including cotton, percale, sateen, and linen. These material samples allow you to preview tone and texture before investing in full-size pieces — ideal for interior designers, stylists, or customers sourcing fabric by the yard.
Do you offer custom bedding sizes or colors?
Yes — we offer custom orders for luxury bedding, bath towels, and table linens. Whether you need a bespoke bolster pillow, a tailored duvet cover, or a unique sheet set size, our Los Angeles studio can accommodate made-to-order requests. Contact our team at hello@matteola.com for pricing and lead times.
Do you offer fabric by the yard?
Yes — MATTEO offers fabric by the yard in 100% cotton and linen. Each textile is garment-washed and left raw for versatility, making them ideal for custom bedding, upholstery, and design projects. You can purchase directly on our website, or email our team at hello@matteola.com.
What is the difference between luxury cotton sateen and percale cotton sheets?
The key difference between percale and sateen lies in the weave. Percale uses a traditional one-over-one basket weave, giving it a matte finish and crisp hand-feel. It’s lightweight, breathable, and ideal for warmer climates or those who sleep hot. Sateen, on the other hand, is woven using a three-over-one pattern, which allows more surface thread exposure and creates a smooth, luminous finish with a slightly heavier drape — perfect for cool sleepers.
Both MATTEO percale and sateen sheets are made from 100% premium cotton and sewn in our Los Angeles factory with an emphasis on longevity, craftsmanship, and refined texture.
What’s the difference between a quilt, coverlet, and duvet?
A duvet is a plush insert (often down-filled) that fits inside a duvet cover. A coverlet is lightweight, typically used as a top layer for decorative or summer use. A quilt is layered and stitched for texture and warmth. MATTEO offers all three in luxury fabrics like linen, cotton, and matelassé.
What is the difference between MATTEO’s Nap and Tru fabrics?
Both Nap and Tru are 100% cotton percale fabrics—the key difference lies in their thread count.
Nap is MATTEO’s classic hotel-style percale, woven with 40s single-strand yarns at 225 thread count. It has a crisp, shirt-like finish that softens with every wash and is designed for long-term durability.
Tru is a higher thread count percale, woven from ultra-fine 100s single yarns at 400 thread count. It offers the same crisp feel as Nap but with a smoother, softer hand and a more refined finish.
What is the best bedding for warm sleepers?
MATTEO’s cotton percale and linen bedding are both excellent choices for warm sleepers. Percale offers cool, matte breathability, while linen naturally regulates temperature. All fabrics are available in duvet covers, sheet sets, and pillowcases.
What is MATTEO’s best selling fabric?
Vintage Linen is our best selling fabric. It is available in all MATTEO colors. Linen is the fabric we have our roots in, and many of our customers maintain a loyalty to the textile as well! Percale cottons are our next best-selling fabrics. Popular for their crisp hotel-worthy look, and their durable weave. Fabric Care
How can I care for my MATTEO bedding?
With proper care, MATTEO bedding, including linen duvet covers, cotton sheets, and sateen bedding, can last many years. We recommend gentle detergents, cold water washes, and low-heat drying to preserve fabric integrity. Avoid overwashing to extend the lifespan of your flat sheets, pillowcases, and quilts. If you have any questions about fabric care, reach out to our textile team at hello@matteola.com.
Can I use bleach when washing MATTEO products?
We recommend using light bleach only on our white cotton products. Another reason to love natural fibers, they require less product! We discourage heavy use of bleach on our products to avoid premature deterioration and not compromise the natural softening of our fabrics. Without polyester elasticity, our products require gentle washing procedures to stay durable, but soften with time!
Will the coloring in MATTEO products fade?
MATTEO dyes its fabrics using REACTIVE dyes. With care and appropriate washing rituals, MATTEO colors will last a long time. We recommend limiting the product's exposure to sunlight and only using bleach free gentle detergents. MATTEO uses VAT dyed polyester threads for borders and trims to distinguish our textiles, which are resistant to bleach and have far superior longevity to pigment and reactive dyes.
