What fabrics does MATTEO's bedding collection include?

MATTEO's bedding is made from 100% cotton and 100% linen, spanning cotton collections like Tru, Nap, and Sei and linen collections such as Vintage Linen and Cluny. Every piece is garment-dyed with non-toxic dyes and designed and manufactured in MATTEO's factory in the heart of Los Angeles.

What's the difference between MATTEO's percale, sateen, and linen bedding?

Percale bedding (Tru, Nap) features a plain, tightly balanced weave that produces a crisp, breathable, matte handfeel. Sateen (Sei, Organic Cotton) floats more yarn across the face for a smoother, silkier surface. Linen bedding (Vintage Linen, Cluny) is a completely different fiber, which is cooler and more textured. Linen softens further with every wash.

Why does MATTEO garment-dye its bedding instead of dyeing the fabric first?

A: Garment-dyeing means the finished piece is dyed and washed as a whole after its been sewn, which softens the fabric and gives it MATTEO's signature lived-in texture. While we stand by the garment-dyeing process, please note that we must allow for a natural shade variation of about +/- 10% between dye lots.

What size sheets or duvet cover should I order for my bed?

MATTEO generally recommends ordering sheets and duvet cover that match the size of your mattress. However, if stuck between two sizes, we recommend you size up and order the larger size. Additionally, if you find that the product you ordered is a little too large for your bed, we are happy to cut it down for you, free of charge.

How do I care for MATTEO bedding without damaging the colors?

Machine wash on a lukewarm, gentle cycle with light and dark colors separated, and do not utilize any detergent or bleach containing chlorine, alpha-hydroxy acids, or benzoyl peroxide, since these break down the reactive dyes used in garment-dyeing. Tumble dry on low heat and remove promptly, or line dry for best results.

Does MATTEO's bedding need to be ironed?

Only if desired. Here at MATTEO we prefer a lived-in look and we do not iron our own bedding frequently. If you prefer a crisper finish, press cotton pieces while slightly damp on the Lightweight Cotton or Medium setting, and linen on the Linen or High setting.
