The Antik Matelasse Swatch is 81% cotton and 19% linen, woven on a Jacquard loom in a matelassé technique that uses thick filling yarn to replicate the dimensional texture of an antique hand quilt. The cotton-linen blend reacts differently in the garment dye bath, producing a subtle color variegation across the raised pattern.

Matelassé is a French weaving method that interlaces thick filling yarns on a Jacquard loom to create a sculptural, quilted surface without any batting or stitching. MATTEO's Antik Matelasse is woven by one of the finest Italian weavers in Northern Italy, then garment-washed to soften the fabric and bring the dimensional texture fully to life. The result pairs well over percale or linen sheets for a layered bed with genuine textile depth.

Because Antik Matelasse is garment-dyed, each dye lot carries a shade variation of up to +/- 10%, and the raised Jacquard texture reads differently in person than on screen. Machine wash in lukewarm water with a gentle detergent, keeping lights and darks separated, and do not overload the drum. Tumble dry on low heat and remove promptly; line drying gives the best result. Do not iron, and avoid chlorine bleach or products containing alpha hydroxy acids, as these damage the reactive garment dyes. The fabric softens further with each wash without losing its quilted texture.
