Sei Sham Single

The Sei Sham is 100% cotton in a sateen weave, garment-washed and finished at 600 thread count. Sei is MATTEO's highest thread count fabric, using the same 120/2 Ne yarn in both warp and weft for an even, balanced weave. The sateen construction gives the face a silky hand feel, while garment-washing ensures the sham arrives pre-softened rather than stiff.

Thread count measures weave density: the number of individual yarns per square inch of fabric. It does not account for yarn quality, fiber length, or weave balance, so a higher number does not automatically mean a better fabric. MATTEO has not gone above 600 TC because fabrics woven at higher counts tend to become stiff and dense, reducing breathability. At 600 TC with a balanced 120/2 Ne yarn construction, Sei achieves softness and drape that higher counts often sacrifice.

A sham and a pillowcase both protect a pillow insert, but their construction differs. The Sei Sham has a 1/2" micro-flange border, a double stitch detail, and an envelope closure that holds the pillow insert securely in place. A standard pillowcase has no border, is open on one side, and loosely encases the pillow. Shams are typically used as the finished, visible layer in a made bed.

The Sei Sham is available in Queen (20 x 30 inches / 51 x 76 cm), King (20 x 36 inches / 51 x 91 cm), and Euro (26 x 26 inches / 66 x 66 cm). The envelope closure on each size holds standard pillow inserts in place without additional fasteners.

Wash the Sei Sham separately by color in a lukewarm cycle with gentle detergent and a cool rinse; do not overload the machine, as excess weight stresses long cotton fibers. Tumble dry on low heat and remove promptly to minimize wrinkling, or line dry for best results. Bleach may be used on white cotton only; avoid chlorine bleach, alpha hydroxy acids, and benzoyl peroxide on any garment-dyed colorway, as the reactive dyes are not resistant to those whitening agents. If you prefer a crisp finish, press while slightly damp on the Lightweight Cotton or Medium iron setting.

Yes. MATTEO uses reactive garment-dyes applied after weaving, a process that results in a lived-in depth of color rather than a flat, printed surface. Because garment-dyeing is an artisanal process rather than an industrial one, MATTEO allows for a shade variation of +/- 10% between dye lots. Customers who order multiple shams at different times may notice subtle tone differences between batches, which is a characteristic of the garment-dyeing process.
