Percale is a plain weave, meaning each thread passes over one and under one in an alternating grid. This 1-over-1 structure produces a matte finish with a light, crisp hand that breathes well and stays cool. Sateen uses a 4-over-1 float structure, which creates a smoother, shinier face but traps more heat. For hot sleepers or anyone who prefers a hotel-style crisp feel, percale is the better choice.

Thread count is a measurement of how many threads occupy one square inch of fabric. In a plain percale weave, the structure physically limits how tightly threads can pack, so claims above 400 in a genuine percale almost always rely on counting individual plies within a twisted yarn rather than single threads. Tru uses a fine 100 singles cotton yarn and counts every thread honestly, which is exactly why MATTEO named it True. The result is the highest thread count achievable in a real percale weave.

Yes. There is no upper limit on total yardage. Because the maximum continuous piece is 3 yards due to garment-dyeing constraints, orders above 3 yards arrive in multiple cuts. Specify on your order how long you need each individual piece, and MATTEO will cut and dye them to those lengths. Tru is available in fifteen garment-dyed colorways: White, Moon, Off White, Greige, Salt, Iris, Mica, Oat, Bay, Alpine, Coal, Fig, Bark, Night, and Smoke. Each color uses reactive dyes applied through a garment-dyeing process, which means slight shade variation of plus or minus 10 percent between dye lots is inherent to the technique. If color consistency across multiple yards is critical to your project, order all yardage in a single transaction.

Machine wash in lukewarm water with a gentle detergent, keeping light and dark colors separated. Do not overload the machine, as this puts stress on the long cotton fibers. Tumble dry on low heat and remove the fabric promptly to limit wrinkling; line drying gives the cleanest result. Chlorine bleach is acceptable on white only. On any garment-dyed colorway, avoid products containing whitening agents, chlorine bleach, alpha hydroxy acids, or benzoyl peroxide, as the reactive dyes are not resistant to them.

Tru is 100% cotton with no synthetic blends, dyed using reactive dyes that do not require harsh chemical fixers on the finished fabric. The garment-washing process removes residual sizing before the fabric reaches you, so it is soft against the skin from the first use.
