Tru Flat Sheet

The Tru Flat Sheet is 100% cotton in a percale weave with a true 400 thread count. Percale is a plain, 1-over-1 weave structure, which makes weaving at high thread counts genuinely difficult. MATTEO achieved 400 by using a very fine 100 singles cotton yarn, so the count is accurate, not inflated by multi-ply thread tricks common in the industry.

The Tru has a light, soft crispness that reads as refined rather than stiff. Because percale is a plain weave, the hand is inherently crisper than sateen, and a higher thread count in a true percale produces a smoother surface without adding heaviness. MATTEO recommends using a King flat sheet (118 x 111 inches) for a Cal King bed, and a Queen flat sheet (100 x 111 inches) for a Full bed. Yes. Every Tru Flat Sheet is garment-washed and dyed using non-toxic dyes. MATTEO uses reactive dyes in the garment-dyeing process, which means color is applied after the sheet is constructed and washed, producing a lived-in depth of color. Because reactive dyes are not resistant to chlorine bleach, whitening agents, alpha hydroxy acids, or benzoyl peroxide, those products should be kept away from garment-dyed colors.

Garment-dyeing means the sheet is dyed as a finished piece rather than from pre-dyed yarn, which gives each flat sheet a softer, more dimensional color with natural variation. Because dyeing at the garment stage is an art rather than a controlled industrial process, MATTEO allows for a shade variation of plus or minus 10% between dye lots. Two sheets ordered in the same color at different times may show a subtle tonal difference, which is an inherent and intentional characteristic of the technique. Wash lights and darks separately in a lukewarm cycle with a gentle detergent and a cool rinse. Do not overload the machine, as packing sheets too tightly can stress the long cotton fibers. Tumble dry on low heat and remove promptly to reduce wrinkling, or line dry for best results. If you prefer a crisp finish, press the sheet while slightly damp on the Lightweight Cotton or Medium iron setting.
