Vintage Linen Napkin

The Vintage Linen Napkins are 100% linen, woven with a 28 single-metric yarn in both the warp and weft. That balanced weave produces a napkin that is soft and sturdy in equal measure. Linen is naturally moisture absorbent, hypoallergenic, and antimicrobial, and it grows softer with every wash rather than wearing down.

The distinction is in our dye house process. We garment-wash every Vintage Linen napkin using a special wash that opens and penetrates the depths of the fibers, softening each one before it reaches you. Standard linen napkins are finished on the bolt and soften gradually over years; ours arrive already broken in, with the relaxed drape of linen that has been lived with. Non-toxic reactive dyes are used throughout, and every napkin is designed and manufactured by MATTEO in Los Angeles.

The dinner napkin measures 22 x 22 inches (56 x 56 cm), a generous size for formal and everyday table settings. Each napkin is finished with a 1-inch hem and mitered corners. A 5 x 5 inch swatch is also available for anyone who wants to confirm color and texture before ordering.

Machine wash in lukewarm water with a gentle detergent, separating light and dark colors. Tumble dry on low heat or line dry for best results, and remove the napkins promptly from the machine to reduce wrinkling. Avoid chlorine bleach, alpha hydroxy acids, and benzoyl peroxide on garment-dyed napkins, as these agents compromise the reactive dyes. Garment-dyeing is an art, and we are transparent about that. We allow for a shade variation of +/- 10% from dye lot to dye lot, which means two napkins from different production runs may differ slightly. Napkins within a single order are pulled from the same dye lot whenever possible. If exact color matching across a large set is a concern, ordering a 5 x 5 inch swatch first is the most reliable way to confirm the specific shade in your light.
